Pools and Pool Houses

As the end of the summer heats up, these pool and pool house ideas will inspire you to stay cool in style!

This wonderful secluded pool with an almost-hidden pool house is such a stand-out. It is chic, inviting, and peaceful all at the same time.

This pool house in the Belgian countryside is a former barn and features steel frames and original beams; the pool is sheathed in glass mosaic tiles, and surrounded by Belgian bluestone.  The overall feel evokes a sort of rustic minimalism.

This cottage with its in-ground pool and eating area is so cozy and serene — a backyard getaway for two!  This lovely design shows you don’t have to “go big” to create something beautiful.

This comfortable, family-friendly pool house is ready to host a steady stream of visitors on sunny afternoons. It features outdoor shower, outdoor kitchen, and stylishly casual furniture, perfect for entertaining or simply enjoying time with family.

If adding an outdoor bar to your poolside design is on your summer bucket list, this cute window idea might be the perfect solution for your pool house or cabana.   Perfect for serving lemonade to the kids or cocktails to the adults!

Now this is a pool-house I could happily spend every summer day in! It serves as a gorgeous guest house and a great place to retreat from everyday life.

Who says you don’t need a pool in paradise? This pool is surrounded by an incredible amount of greenery to create a true backyard oasis.

What does your perfect pool or pool house look like?

Modern Wood Paneling

If the term paneled walls brings to mind heavy, dark wood that sucks the natural light out of a space, you probably aren’t alone.  Wood paneling tends to make us all imagine the same sort of interior, but believe it or not, modern paneled walls can look light, sleek, and modern while still retaining the natural warmth and organic texture of wood.

Here are some examples of modern wood paneling anyone can fall in love with!

Take a look at these gorgeous walls featuring square panels.  The geometric looks is modern and stylish without feeling cold.

Oversize panels in this bath add height to the small space, making the room feel larger than it really is.

Looking for a strong, masculine wall choice?  The darker panels in this bedroom look so sumptuous!  Metallic accents give the bedroom just the right amount of reflective light.

Who Doesn’t Love Pink?

Mature pink carpet. Design by Cami.

Who doesn’t love pink?  It seems we all have love on our minds during the month of February, and what better color to evoke romantic feelings than pink?  There are so many ways to incorporate pink into a space, whether you want to go all out or just add a hint of color here and there.  Below are some of my favorite examples of how this pretty shade can enhance almost any room in your home.

Such a whimsical scene!

The meaning of pink can be used to emanate feelings of compassion, caring, understanding, and, what else but, love and romance. It can be a pure and innocent color, and in turn, very positive. Hence, it can benefit your life by generating positive emotions, love, compassion and happiness.

Style At Home: Jordana Hazel

A well placed accessory can bring a new elegance to your design.  Pink is a great choice for an accent color.  It adds a feminine touch and a blush of happiness.  This color often has a calming effect on people, suggesting safety and vulnerability.  Use bright pinks for a playful, exciting atmosphere or more vibrant pinks for a passionate, sensual feel.  The pink spectrum has so much potential!

Decorating in pink + gold #BHGSUMMER

The most common pink color used in feng shui decorating is a gentle pink, although the “hot version” of it, the magenta pink, is also very popular. Combined with orange, also a fire feng shui element color, it can bring a fiery and passionate energy to any space.

This design by Cami Weinstein was inspired loosely by the French 1940’s with a modern twist! CamiDesigns.com

Pink helps people get in touch with their thoughtful and caring side, either through the need to receive, give or care for others.  Using pink in the bathroom may offer a little extra space for mental reflection.

Red Room

Red rooms are so fun to design! Using the color red has a bit of psychology behind it. Red will offer a resonant and stimulating aspect for rooms. A room with much red can increase the level of passion. Red may also be used to increase hunger and can be a great color for a kitchen! With red being a bold color, it often requires a little design know how to build a room around it. Here are some designs that I find inspirational for taking on red room projects.

Love the gold paint outlining the door panels!

Gold always goes great with red. It offers a more regal look to the design. Finding a complimentary carpet will bring the room together.

Stunning collection of Italian Empoli glass vessels.

Designing a room with a touch of red doesn’t always have to mean painting the walls. Well placed red decor may also bring out the warm vibes of a room.

Sitting room goals!

A comfy red velvet love seat can also be a great design detail. With the fabric reflecting light, it will open up the room a bit. Bold colors may make a room feel smaller, but using accents of white and a lighter color will open it right back up.

What an outstanding look! Ashley Whittaker, photo Thomas Loof,

A large room with windows is always a great option for red design. The light will really bring out the brightness in the red tones and wake a room up. This reading nook is absolutely beautiful. Each fabric is unique with a small touch of red or muted tones.

Luscious!

Like a bold lipstick, red can make a room more interesting. It can cause people to stop and stare. Adding red to a quiet room can create a little buzz around the area.

Stunning combination of red and white. And that chandelier…..wow!

Red bathrooms are one of my favorite ways to explore red interior design projects. Take a look at these two bathrooms!

So cool!

Do you have something red in your home that you love?

The Montauk House

Montauk is one of my favorite places to visit.  When a client reached out with hopes of giving her Montauk home a much needed update, I was thrilled!  Combining personal and traditional elements we created a beautiful, welcoming environment.

Montauk has a soothing energy that instantly relaxes you.  It was important for my client for her design to be sophisticated yet welcoming.  We decided to feature a natural color palette to bring the outdoors in for a seamless transition.

Bathroom Design

The bathroom should be fresh and inviting; a place for privacy.  Bathrooms are one of the major selling points of a home, and tend to have a lot of foot traffic.  This bathroom’s wallpaper makes a statement without overwhelming the space.  Rich, glossy tile and fresh grout make the backsplash pop and lead your eyes to shiny hardware.  The mirror adds a contemporary, geometric touch; I love the simple detail of this mirror.

Living Room Design

My client’s Montauk house is close to the beach, which makes wicker the ultimate accent.  The wicker coffee table and large area rug ground the design, while white accents add a fresh pop.  Before we began mapping out the living room, my client emphasized that this was the room friends and family would spend a majority of their time in (aside from the kitchen, of course).  Working with a neutral palette set the tone for relaxation, making the room the ultimate chill hangout.

Dining Room Design

The Montauk house’s dining room before the grasscloth wallpaper installation.

How elegant! The dining room’s finished look.

One of my favorite ways to add glamour to a room is with custom wallcoverings.  One of my favorite fabrics to work with is grasscloth, specifically from Phillip Jeffries!  The Montauk house’s dining room featured gorgeous bay windows for maximum lighting, adding all the more to the wallpaper’s luster.

Bedroom Details

Once the house’s major rooms were outfitted, it was time for the bedroom.  Because the majority of the house featured natural beiges and crisp whites, we decided the bedroom should be a little more eclectic.  The ikat-inspired duvet cover is a bold black and white print we both loved instantly.  Patterned sheets add a subtle mix of pattern play, while  bedside accents are bursting with color.  I loved this bedside table’s hardware and rich blue tone and thought it paired wonderfully with this acidic green lamp.

Modular Home Install Day

Wow!  I can’t believe modular home install day has finally arrived!  It’s a big day for the house I am working on in Montauk!  The day started on an early note; a total of 5 pieces were to be moved to the location and completed.

Cami Weinstein Designs LLC Cami Weinstein Designs LLC 03

We spent the day watching as each piece was carefully placed into position.  This was a tough site to work on; it’s narrow and has a lot of low-hanging electrical wires.  It was decided that it would be best if each piece was brought under the wires, then lifted and spun 180 degrees to be set in the proper place.  It was a fun and fascinating day!

About Modular Homes

Cami Weinstein Designs LLC

There’s a little bit you should know about modulars.  The modular homes of today can be completely customized to meet both aesthetic and town-code restrictions.  This modular was designed with architect Christopher Hull, of CAH Architects in Cos Cob, CT and myself.  Working with Chris was a pleasure;  he really listens to what the client is looking for and works to meet their specific goals.

Cami Weinstein Designs LLC

Jon Sirkin of Hampton Modular and his team are taking care of the construction.   Hampton Modular is fantastic to work with; they are  open to new ideas and go to great lengths to make their clients happy.  It’s a pleasure working with Hampton Modular and such a personable construction company is truly a rare find.

Cami Weinstein Designs LLC

Jon has just opened another office in Greenwich, known as Greenwich Modular.  As a designer I am delighted to work with such a great team and so glad this home design option was explored!

Cami Weinstein Designs LLC

Now that the pieces of the modular home are set into position, completion will only take a few months.  During these months, finishing touches will be put onto the modular home.  I can’t wait to see the final result!  Stay tuned as we take you through this project through completion.

It’s surprising how versatile black paint can be.  The architecture of this apartment complex pops in a metropolitan area; I love the white trim accents.  Below, a secluded cabin takes a bold stand in front of its astounding natural backdrop.

Project:  Exterior Refresh

Recently kitchen and bath designer, Sarah Blank, and I were discussing ways to refresh a home’s exterior.  Sarah mentioned wanting to paint the exterior of her house black for a fresh look.  I was instantly intrigued, recently having seen a modern 80’s home in the Hamptons.  The house’s exterior was painted black and it looked fabulous!  Afterward, I set out to explore different shades of black for various styles of homes.  Regardless of whether they are traditional, gothic, mid century, modern, barn or cottage-style homes, once painted black, a home is instantly given a wonderfully exotic aesthetic.

Clapton-Inspired Design

Recently, I went to see Eric Clapton in concert.  My penchant for Clapton-inspired design began once I saw the stage hands rolling out a large Oriental rug.

Live Performance

Eric Clapton Live

The performance was amazing; Clapton’s moody rock and blues ballads are so heartfelt.  Many of the songs are deeply personal and about his personal struggles with love, loss, addiction and life.  It’s always amazing to witness an artist transforming their emotions into art.

Live Performance

Live music is good for the soul.

Before Clapton, Gary Clark Jr., another favorite musical artist of mine, performed.  As the stage hands were clearing sound equipment and instruments from Gary Clark Jr.’s set, I noticed a man carrying a large rug out.  The man proceeded to spread the large Oriental rug onto the stage.  This piqued my interest immediately, and questions began running through my head.

Live Performance

The concert was an amazing experience!

Why an Oriental Rug?  Was it a way of feeling home?  He was pretty far from England.  Did the rug feel comforting?  Did it remind him of home? Was it reminiscent of the bohemian mania of the 60’s?  Were the colors a source of inspiration for him; the patterns?  Did the huge Oriental rug help to absorb sound?  For the rest of the night I kept wondering about the rug and what it meant to him.

Classic Oriental & Persian Rugs

Classic Oriental and Persian rugs having been out of the design limelight for a while,  but they remain timeless.  Ornate with beautiful colors and patterns, Oriental and Persian rugs are a fabulous investment.

Persian Oriental Rugs

Infuse your interior with elements of bohemian chic by adding (or layering) these ornate rugs.  These rugs will definitely make a comeback.  They remain as iconic to decorating as Eric Clapton is to music.  I selected these beautiful pieces for decor inspiration; throw your favorite Clapton on, and start pinning your favorites here.

Designing a Modular Home

I’m currently designing a modular home, which is very exciting!  Modular home design has come a long way; there are so many ways to personalize your layout.

Montauk is the perfect vacation spot.  Recently a client asked for my assistance in designing their modular home to fit their growing family.  Modular homes make for wonderful vacation homes; with a few personal touches, this modular will be ideal.

Modular Construction

Signature Building Systems Cami Weinstein Designs LLC

I selected Signature Building Systems to help me take on this project.

I wanted to work with a modular construction company that was open to suggestions and alterations.  While browsing the internet, I came across a contractor who works solely with modular construction in The Hamptons.

I met with the owner of Hampton Modular, LLC and was amazed at how far modulars had come!  Jon has been amazing through this process; he’s always flexible, helpful and knowledgeable.

Design Goals:  The Perfect Beach House

The”bump out” of my client’s dining room.

My client’s design goal was to create the perfect social environment for family and friends.  We decided to incorporate an open-space kitchen, which could double as a family room.  This makes for the perfect space to enjoy food and conversation!

My client and I decided the house should have a gambrel roof to comply with zoning restrictions.  This traditional element would give the home a timeless feel.

Jon recommended Christopher Hull of CAH Architecture and Design, LLC.  This was a perfect recommendation because Chris is located five minutes away from my office in Greenwich, CT!  He and his staff are terrific!  He has done many modulars and was a vital part of our team.
